Samba was the eldest son of Krishna and his second wife Jambavanti who was married to Duryodhana's daughter Lakshmana. When the war of Mahabharata ended, Gandhari, considering Krishna guilty of it, cursed the destruction of Yadukul, which Krishna happily accepted.
He also said that when the time comes, he and Balram himself will destroy Yadukul. Although no one had thought at that time that Krishna's clan would be destroyed because of his own son Samba. 36 years had passed since the end of the Mahabharata. Once Maharishi Durvasa and other sages came to Dwarka. Seeing such a large herd of sages, Samba and his friends thought of playing pranks on them.
They dressed Samba as a woman and covered her face and took her to Maharishi Durvasa. He bowed down to Maharishi and said to him - "O Maharishi! This friend of ours is pregnant. You are omniscient, so predict whether she will give birth to a son or a daughter.
"All the sages were deeply saddened by this type of joke, but considering it childish, they did not say anything. But Maharishi Durvasa could not control his anger. The curse was kept on the tip of his tongue anyway. Said, "You fool! are you joking with us? A pestle will be born from the womb of this friend of yours and with that pestle the entire Yadu clan will be destroyed.
Hearing this curse of Maharishi Durvasa, all the people ran away from there in fear. They had just gone a short distance that Samba started having labor pains and she produced a huge pestle in the same way. Everyone was very scared and reached Shri Krishna with that pestle and told him all the incidents truthfully.
When Krishna and Balram heard this, they were very sad. Krishna understood that the time had come for the destruction of Yadukul and his and Balarama's Nirvana. When Maharaj Ugrasen heard this, he ordered that this pestle should be thrown into powder on the seashore so that there would be no danger from it. Everyone knew Krishna but he did not say anything.
As per the order of Ugrasen, that pestle was thrown into the seashore. From that powder grew grass as tall as humans. At that time the residents of Dwarka were very surprised that how can grass grow in the sand, but in a few days people forgot this fact.
After some time, all the Yadavas gathered on the seashore for the celebration of Prabhastirtha. While arguing there, they all started drinking alcohol. Krishna and Balram explained to him a lot that he should not drink alcohol but no one listened to them. Both of them understood that destiny has come, that's why they both sat apart from that crowd.
Satyiki made fun of Kritavarma in the matter of alcohol and said - "Look at this. He is the great man who fought on behalf of the Kauravas in the Mahabharata war and moreover, he is such a great warrior that in the dark of night he has treacherously killed the Pandavas." He supported Ashwathama in the slaughter. Despite this, today he is sitting here in front of us like a shameless person. On Satyiki saying this, the Yadavas present there started laughing at Kritavarma.
Seeing this, Kritvarma started feeling extremely humiliated. He said in anger - "Ray Cleve! What do you talk about my bravery? Your bravery is also known to the world. You killed Bhurishrava by deceit. If this had not happened, you would have gone to hell a long time ago." On Kritavarma saying this, the Yadavas started laughing at Satyiki.
Then Satyiki said in anger - "O Naradham! You are the one who wanted to kill Satrajit." Hearing that Kritavarma wanted to kill her father, Satyabhama rushed to Krishna crying. Seeing the situation worsening, Krishna and Balaram immediately reached there. Meanwhile, enraged, Kritavarma again cursed Satyiki and said - "O wretch! On the fifth day of the Mahabharata war, Bhurishrava killed your 10 sons in front of you. How does one who could not protect his sons talk of bravery? Is?"
Being thus insulted, Satyiki cut off Kritavarma's head with his sword without thinking anything in anger. There was an outcry when Kritavarma was thus killed. Satyiki and Kritavarma were the most respected and powerful heroes from Dwarka. Seeing one of them being killed like this, all the Yadavs of that place immediately divided into two groups, the brave Kritavarma and Satyiki. After the murder of Kritavarma, Bhojraj and the king of the Andhak clan attacked Satyiki.
Seeing Satyiki's life in danger, Krishna's son Pradyumna jumped into battle to save her. In no time, a terrible war broke out between the Yadavas there in front of Krishna and Balram. It was the time of celebration, that's why no one had weapons with them.
Then all the Yadav heroes started killing each other by uprooting the grass growing on the same bank. Due to the curse of Durvasa Rishi, thousands of pestles were born from those grasses and from that everyone started destroying each other. When Krishna and Balarama saw this, both of them out of grief and anger uprooted the same grass and with their own hands started killing everyone with the same grass.
In no time, except Krishna and Balarama, the entire Yadav clan was destroyed. Even all the sons of Krishna and Balarama were attained by Kaal. After this, the saddened Balarama himself took water-samadhi there and Krishna alone went to the forest and lay down under a tree. There a hunter named Jara mistaken his feet as the musk of an antelope and attacked him with his arrow.
What would have happened to Shri Krishna with that arrow, but till then the time of his incarnation had ended, that's why considering him as the doer, he gave up his life there. In this way, one joke of Samba destroyed the entire Yaduvansh.
