Spring comes and goes. Fall comes, it goes. Happiness comes and goes. Sorrows come and go. The coming and going of happiness and sorrow is just like the coming and going of spring and autumn. Coming and going is the eternal law of this world. One who knows this eternal law, his life gradually becomes free from bondage.
One dark night, an adult man was contemplating committing suicide by jumping off the bank of a river. It was raining heavily, the river was at full speed. The sky was covered with thick clouds, intermittently there was lightning. He was the richest man in that area. But suddenly all his wealth went in loss.
That's why he came here after deciding to commit suicide. But as he was about to reach the edge of the cliff to jump into the river, two old but strong hands held him. Then the lightning flashed and he saw an old sadhu Baba holding him.
They asked him the reason for this depression and after hearing the whole story, he started laughing and said, so do you accept that you were happy earlier? He said- yes then the sun of my good fortune was shining with full light and now there is nothing left in my life except darkness. Hearing this, Sadhu Baba again laughed and said, Day after night and Night after day.
If there is no day, how will the night last? Change is the eternal law of nature. When there are no good days, there will be no bad days. One who knows this eternal law, his life becomes like an unshakable rock, which remains the same in rain and sun.
One who takes happiness and sorrow with equanimity, understand that he has known the eternal law of life. One who realizes this eternal law, one day comes to know himself as well. Because to be in equanimity is to be established in one's own existence.
